Some dental procedures need a bit more expertise than a regular check-up — things like difficult wisdom teeth, surgical extractions, or minor surgical work that goes beyond what a general dentist would normally do. At Ropewalk Dental, we provide minor oral surgery (sometimes called IMOS — Intermediate Minor Oral Surgery) under both NHS referral and private arrangements.
What we treat
- Wisdom teeth removal — including impacted, partially erupted or buried wisdom teeth
- Surgical extractions — when a tooth is too broken or rooted to be removed straightforwardly
- Removal of buried roots from previous extractions
- Soft tissue procedures — biopsies, frenectomies, cyst removal
- Pre-prosthetic surgery — preparing the mouth for dentures or implants
Treatment under sedation
If the thought of any kind of dental surgery makes you anxious, we can offer treatment under conscious sedation. You stay awake and able to respond, but you'll feel deeply relaxed and most patients remember very little of the procedure afterwards. We'll talk through whether sedation is right for you at your consultation.
What to expect
Before any surgical treatment, you'll have a consultation appointment to discuss your case, review any imaging, and go through the procedure step by step. We'll explain what we'll do, how long it will take, what recovery looks like, and answer any questions you have. You'll also receive written aftercare instructions to take home.
On the day, treatment usually takes between 30 and 90 minutes depending on what's involved. Most patients are back to normal activities within a few days, though you may need to take it easy for the first 24-48 hours.
